Welcome to Orlando's National Night Out 2013

Thank you for getting involved in our Crime Prevention fight. Our goal is to keep Orlando a safe city by reducing crime and maintaining livable neighborhoods. You can help us reach that goal one neighbor at a time.

Important Information

• All street closures are paid for by the Orlando Police Department if you submit your Block Party Permit before July 23, 2013. You do not have to close your street to have a successful National Night Out Event.

• Each National Night Out (NNO) organizer who submits a NNO Evaluation by August 13, will be entered into a drawing for great prizes donated by Orlando businesses.

Click here for a NNO invitation flyer, a copy of the NNO Essay Contest and NNO Coloring Contest Sheet can be found here. Please use these to make as many copies as you need for your party. If you are unable to make the copies, call our office and we will have them mailed to you.

“Recruit Your Neighbor” Special prizes will be given to those NNO Coordinators who increase the size of the 2012 NNO Block Party or invite a new street or neighborhood to hold their own block party. Click here for more details.

NNO Newbie Party Package – Each first time NNO party will receive a free NNO start-up kit. Your kit will contain cups, plates, plastic utensils, napkins, table cloths and garbage bags.

NNO Planning Week – May 26 – June 1. Begin your planning early. This will prevent your group from feeling the last minute rush and will allow you to get more people and local businesses involved. If you submit pictures of your Planning Week activities by June 14th, your name will be entered into a drawing for great prizes and your photo will be submitted for entry into the National Association of Town Watch New Spirit Magazine.

Here are a few suggestions on what should be discussed during planning week:

  1. How many people should we plan for? Who will get food, drinks, utensils, etc.?

  2. What kinds of activities will encourage conversation and people getting to know one another?

  3. What should we do for kids? Games, face painting, piñata, recognition awards for good things they’ve done, coloring center/table to complete the coloring contest, etc?

  4. What prize can we offer to the kids who participate in the NNO Coloring Contest and NNO Essay Contest?

  5. Should we have music? What kind and who will arrange for it?

  6. Do we want to close the street? If so, who will complete and submit the Block Party Permit  Application (by the July 23rd deadline)?

  7. Should we make an invitation flyer? Who will do it? Who will get the flyers to the neighbors?

  8. Do we need the flyer in more than one language? Which language(s) and who will do that?

  9. How can we grow our party? (invite new streets to participate and/or encourage surrounding neighborhoods to host their own NNO party)

  10. What will we do if it rains?

  11. What activities will we have to teach our neighbors what suspicious activity is and how and when to report it and other crime prevention tips.

Photo Contest – Send in your five best photos or video for another chance to win one of our awesome grand prize give-a-ways.
