Step 1.Check Your Eligibility

Do you have what it takes to become an Orlando Police Officer? Here are the basic requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must have a high-school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a good work history.
  • No dishonorable discharge from any branch of the military.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be in good physical condition and of good moral character.
  • Vision must be correctable to 20/40 in each eye.
  • Must have no felony convictions or misdemeanors involving moral character, false statements or domestic violence.
  • No pending criminal charges.
  • Must pass a written exam, physical assessment test, panel interview, polygraph exams, background investigation, medical screening and a psychological exam.

Step 3.Take your Civil Service and Physical Assessment tests

When your full application is approved, we will contact you to schedule a Civil Service Exam and Physical Assessment Test.

  • The Civil Service Exam is a decision-making evaluation based on scenarios, which includes video, reading and writing elements. You can take practice tests at ergopracticetests.com.
  • The Physical Assessment Test requires candidates to run 1.5 miles in less than 18 minutes and complete as many push-ups and sit-ups as they can in one minute.

Step 4.Attend an interview with the recruiting staff

When you pass the Civil Service Exam and Physical Assessment Test, you will complete paperwork and a panel interview with our staff.

Step 5.Take polygraphs

When you pass the first polygraph, successful candidates will get a conditional offer. The second polygraph and background check will be completed.

Step 6.Final requirements

Successful candidates will move on to final requirements:

  • Medical examination
  • Psychological assessment

When you pass these remaining steps, you will either:

  • Attend the Police Academy as a non-certified, paid recruit
  • Start a police orientation for state certified officers
