ORLANDO, FL —— On Thursday, July 31, 2014, the City of Orlando Police & Fire Departments, in conjunction with the Orange County School Board, FDLE, Winter Park Police Department, Kissimmee Police Department and Orange County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a large scale training exercise. It will focus on School Safety & Tactical Operations Training at Edgewater High School, located at 3100 Edgewater Drive, Orlando (College Park neighborhood). The exercise will begin around 8 a.m., and end at approximately noon.
The training exercise will demonstrate how each agency works collaboratively during large scale incidents. Mayor Buddy Dyer, school teachers and administrators and various community partners will be in attendance. School Resource Officers will also be participating in preparation for the upcoming school year.
During the training exercise, neighboring homes may hear loud sounds however, they should not be concerned. A larger than normal police and fire presence will be in the area of the school. The training is not open to the public, but media will be allowed controlled access as requested.
Media is instructed to meet in the parking area north of the school (off Maury Road). No weapons or sharp edge items are allowed inside the event.
