Detective Sharon Key

Sharon Key joined the Orlando Police
Department in 1992 as a PACE operator and then spent five and one half years as
a Community Service Officer prior to becoming a sworn police officer. Her
assignments as a police officer have included working in Patrol and the Gang
Unit. She then became a School Resource Officer, working at middle
schools and high schools. She decided to give back to her community by becoming
one of the school resource officers at Jones High School where she graduated
from almost twenty years ago. This assignment allowed her to become a mentor and
a positive role model to all the students in the high school. She is currently a
detective in the Criminal Investigations Division working in the Economic Crimes
Unit.
Officer Key earned her Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Columbia
College and made the list of the Who’s Who Among Students in America’s Junior
Colleges. She is currently working on her Bachelor’s Degree.
Officer Key is a single mother with one son. Her hobbies include reading,
singing, cooking, spending quality time with her son, and staying active in her
church. When asked what she would like to pass on to females interested in
pursuing a career in law enforcement, Officer Key stated, “Never give up. Stay
strong.”
