Win Big Prizes
Each NNO Organizer will be entered into a drawing for great prizes.  In past years, prizes have included stays at the Peabody, Dave and Busters gift cards, gas grills and theme park tickets.  Be on the lookout for a list of the 2014 prizes.

Five ways to earn entries and win: 

  1. Submit pictures of your NNO Planning Week activities and receive an entry into the drawing.
  2. Participate in the NNO Veterans Incentive program and receive an entry into the drawing.
  3. Submit your NNO Registration Form by July 18, 2014 and receive an entry into the drawing.
  4. Submit your NNO Evaluation by August 15, 2014 and receive four entries into the drawing.
  5. Submit your best five photos from your event by August 15, 2014 and receive an entry into the drawing

Free Self-Defense Training & CPR Training 
As a thank you for your dedication to Neighborhood Watch and National Night Out, the Orlando Police Department is offering six Women’s Self-Defense classes and seven Hands-Only CPR trainings for Neighborhood Watch members.  The self-defense classes are open to females 18 or older.  Females under18 interested in participating must be accompanied by a parent.  This class is ONLY open to females.

National Night Out Leaders Training
April 2, 2014, 6 p.m.– 9 p.m. at the Orlando Police Headquarters ,100 S. Hughey Ave., Orlando, FL 32801. All Neighborhood Watch members are invited to participate in this training.  Training will cover:

  1. The Dangers of Reckless Driving–Presented by Officer Leroy Alfred
  2. Take Heart Orlando-Hands-Only CPR/AED Train the Trainer -This session will instruct Neighborhood Watch Block Captains on the skills necessary to be a Take Heart Orlando Hands-Only CPR instructor. After the training, the Block Captains will receive a free CPR-Anytime Hands-Only CPR kit. This kit will enable you to teach Hands-Only CPR to your family, friends and neighbors.
  3. NNO Best Practices
  4. Ask the Chief – Neighborhood Watch members will be given an opportunity to be a part of a discussion with their new Police Chief. Chief John W. Mina will lead a discussion focusing on topics that impact our City, our neighborhoods and our community.

National Night Out Teen Police & Fire Academy
June 16–June 26, 2014.  The academy is open to all high school students and is designed to offer a glimpse into the field of law enforcement & firefighting.  Session topics will include:  Uniform Patrol, Assault & Battery, Fire Apparatus, Hands-Only CPR, Drug Enforcement and College Preparedness. Students will talk to experts on college entry requirements, financial aid, student life and college sports.   The academy meets daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Lunch will be provided, at NO COST and each student’s family will be invited to a catered graduation ceremony on the final day.   To register, please call Sonya Robinson @ 407.246.3939 or email sonya.robinson@cityoforlando.net.  Registration deadline–June 2, 2014.

Senior Safety Summit
June 10, 2014, 9:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m.–Hal Marston Center-3933 W.D. Judge Dr.  The NWU will host a summit entitled: Crime Prevention Techniques for Seniors.  The summit offers an opportunity for seniors and supportive police officers to collaborate and prevent crimes against seniors in Orlando.  OPD, OFD and Family, Parks and Recreation will cover a variety of subjects to include, but not limited to, Senior Self-Defense, Hands-Only CPR and Target Hardening a Home.  Light refreshments will be provided by Wellcare.

Women’s Self Defense Summit
July 24, 2014, 6 – 9 p.m. -Dr. James R. Smith Neighborhood Center, 1723 Bruton Blvd.  This event will be open to the public and will provide an expo of safety vendors, training and awareness seminars to help ensure the safety and well being of our female community.  A special emphasis will be placed on Domestic Violence.  This Summit will end with a Women’s Self-Defense class.  Refreshments will be provided.

Hispanic Safety Summit
May 28, 2014, 9:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m.-Engelwood Neighborhood Center-6123 La Costa Dr.  This summit is specifically designed for our Spanish speaking community, and will include crime prevention presentations from Spanish speaking officers on the topics of: Prescription Fraud, Identity Theft, Residential Security and Personal Safety. Light refreshments will be provided by Wellcare.

NNO Goes to Church
OPD realizes the impact that the faith-based community has on our City neighborhoods, therefore we strive to keep them as an integral part of our crime prevention efforts.  NNO Goes to Church is a time for congregations and the surrounding community to come together in partnership with the OPD to “Take their community back.” Join us again this year on August 5th as we endeavor to do just that by hosting a NNO party on your church campus.  You may register here or call the Neighborhood Watch Unit at 407.246.2369, and a registration packet will be mailed out to you. NNO Goes to Church registrants will receive a Block Party Package that includes:

  • NNO t-shirts
  • a NNO banner
  • Sidewalk Chalk
  • Water
  • Coloring Books
  • Frisbees

To thank you for your participation, the first 25 churches that register for NNO Goes to Church will receive a moon bounce and a food concession machine.

NNO Day of Prayer
August 3, 2014.  The entire City of Orlando and the Central Florida area will be asked to spend a few minutes in prayer for our neighborhoods, our law enforcement officers, government officials, and our military.  All churches in the Central Florida area will be invited to participate.  The NWU will work with the OPD Chaplains to be able to offer participating churches a visit from one of the Chaplains.

National Night Out Planning Week
May 26, 2014–May 30, 2014.  Begin your planning early to prevent your group from feeling the last minute rush.  Starting early will also allow you to get more people and more local businesses involved.  This is the time to organize your planning committee and delegate responsibilities.  Submit pictures to kea.cherfrere@cityoforlando.net of your Planning Week activities by June 15, 2014.  Participate in NNO Planning Week and submit pictures by the deadline for one entry into the grand prize drawing.

NNO Veterans Incentive
Has your neighborhood participated in NNO for three years or more?  If so, you are eligible for a special incentive.  Incentives will be limited to the first 20 residents to register.  Be on the lookout for these special incentives.  All NNO Veterans will receive one entry into the grand prize drawing.
