Event: Chief Michael McCoy and Central Florida P.A.L.-PSA
SUMMARY
Chief McCoy has been involved with Central Florida P.A.L. for many years. P.A.L.
was started by a former Orlando Police officer, Chick Fryar to foster a positive
relationship between the police and youth in the community.
In an effort to combat the City of Orlando’s high crime rate, Orlando Police
Chief Michael McCoy has teamed up with the Central Florida Police Athletic
League, P.A.L., to send an important message to the community. This 60-second
Public Service Announcement (PSA) serves as a reminder of the need for
involvement of interested citizens as mentors, coaches or simply lending a hand
in whatever capacity fits the Central Florida P.A.L. program. The 30-second PSA
is asking people to buy the P.A.L license plate in support of their mission.
The Orlando Police Department will unite our efforts with our local community.
We intend to solve our homicides, but in an effort to prevent them, we need to
make our neighborhoods and streets safe. The Central Florida Police Athletic
League and the Orlando Police Department work together in providing positive
after-school programs for the leaders of tomorrow.
The Central Florida Police Athletic League’s mission is to prevent juvenile
crime and violence, develop citizenship skills and promote respect for the law
by providing athletic, educational and recreational opportunities to assist
at-risk youth in Central Florida. Central Florida P.A.L. programs foster a sense
of self-respect as well as respect for others and respect for the law. After
school tutoring, year-round recreation and youth sports programs and Kids Café
are offered to boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 18 years old living in
the Mercy Drive neighborhood. Programs are funded by Heart of Florida United
Way, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central FL, City of Orlando, and Orange County
– Citizens Commission for Children and foundation, corporate, individual and
civic partners. Volunteers serve as reading buddies, coaches, tutors and
board/committee members.
