Summary:
Barrington Irving, a young black pilot from Miami, will be
meeting with the Mayor 10/18/06 1100 hrs to officially acknowledge the City of
Orlando's involvement with his upcoming historical event during the period of
Black History Month 2007. Barrington endeavors to be the first black pilot, and
youngest person, to fly his Columbia 400 plane around the world solo.
Barrington's non-profit organization, Experience Aviation, aims to inspire youth
around the world by influencing them in setting goals and achieving their dreams
in a successful career such as aviation.
Barrington's vision was to make it possible for kids and adults around the world
to fly along with him, real-time, via the internet and live his own dream. To
achieve this, Barrington was directed to Orlando Police Officer Bobby Hayes who
started a software company four years ago that specializes in designing aircraft
for Flight Simulator produced by Microsoft. Barrington and 'Officer Bob' have
been working closely together and have become great friends since the start of
this year to build an exact replica of Barrington's specialized aircraft for the
simulator and is now completed. With other technical systems in place, this will
provide the opportunity for selected schools, programs, and special interest
group students to sign on to the internet and fly along with Barrington in his
'virtual reality' plane. All flight data such as speed, heading, altitude,
fuel...even weather will be updated on any participant’s computers.
Update:
Today's meeting with Mayor Dyer was very fruitful, and Officer Bobby Hayes is
very excited the Mayor and the city are in full support and recognize the
importance of this wonderful opportunity that will not only benefit our inner
city youth, schools, museums, and programs, but this endeavor also sets an
example of the city's diversified progress from within the Orlando Police
Department and outward through City Hall to around the world.
