Officer Profile

                                          Justin Mount

Orlando Police Officer Justin Mount is a fresh face to the force. Officer Mount has been a member of the OPD family a little over a year and has already started making a positive impact on the City Beautiful.

Originally from Lakeland, Florida, Officer Mount never imagined that he would become a law enforcement officer. After graduating high school, Officer Mount enrolled at Polk Community College. While Officer Mount was working towards his Associates Degree, a Lakeland police officer spoke in his class. The officer’s presence, dedication, and ambition stuck with Officer Mount. After completing his Associates Degree, Officer Mount enrolled in the Police Academy in Lakeland.

After graduating from the Academy, Officer Mount joined the Ormond Beach Police Department. While a member of that agency, Officer Mount was awarded Officer of the Quarter, a Medal of Valor and the Chief’s Award of Commendation after he apprehended a bank robber and recovered over $86,000 in addition to his outstanding day-to-day activities.

In April 2006, after three years with the Ormond Beach Police Department, Officer Mount joined the Orlando Police Department. He joined the OPD family for many reasons: being in Orlando would bring him closer to his family in Lakeland; the opportunity for greater career growth; and the excitement of a bigger city.

Officer Mount was awarded Officer of the Month in May 2007 due to his role in apprehending the criminals responsible for two major crimes. While patrolling an area of Orange Blossom Trail, Officer Mount attempted to pull over a stolen vehicle. At first, the driver tried to flee, but changed his mind and pulled over. After apprehending the career criminal, Officer Mount located a Glock handgun that had been stolen from Al’s Army Store. The recovery of that stolen gun and the apprehension of the suspect helped break the case.

In response to multiple commercial burglaries and copper thefts in the Parramore area, Officer Mount was ordered to patrol in an unmarked vehicle rather than his marked police cruiser. While patrolling in his unmarked vehicle, Officer Mount witnessed a burglary in progress. A male suspect was in the process of taking copper wire from the building until Officer Mount interrupted him.

When not enhancing the safety of the City Beautiful, Officer Mount enjoys practicing mixed martial arts. Through practice and hard work, Officer Mount has earned a blue belt in Brazilian Ju-Jitsu. In September, Officer Mount traveled to Kentucky to participate in a tournament in which he defeated his opponent in the first round.

Even after four years of work in law enforcement, his mother worries and his brothers tease. Yet Officer Mount is relentless in his dedication to protecting the citizens of Orlando and serving as a positive role model to area kids. Officer Mount patrols the Parramore Heritage neighborhood of Orlando during the night shift. The shift, which starts at 6pm allows him a little bit of time in the evenings to play basketball with neighborhood kids.  Officer Mount has also been known to accept the challenge of a friendly foot-race. He believes that everyone wins when young people have positive interactions with law enforcement officers.

Officer Mount is a strong believer in mutual respect between citizens and officers. One of his greatest frustrations is repeat offenders. At times, it feels as though he is arresting the same people for the same crimes week after week.

In the future, Officer Mount wants to continue his education by earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Central Florida. He also hopes to positively influence lives through his work. Eventually, Officer Mount would like to work in an undercover capacity or with the K-9 Unit. Whatever his future brings, Officer Justin Mount is an outstanding addition to the Orlando Police Department and the Orlando community.
