Event: OPD Mounted Patrol-Horse Retirement Ceremony

Location: Orlando Police Mounted Patrol Stable
Rio Grande and Church St. (Across from Citrus Bowl)

SUMMARY:

Orlando Police Department will be retiring two veteran police mounts today. Associate or "Sammy" is a 13-year-old Thoroughbred and 9-year veteran of the barn. "Miracle" is a 17-year-old Thoroughbred and 10-year veteran of the barn. Both horses have medical conditions that necessitate retirement. They have bravely served the Orlando Police Department and Citizens of Orlando through thick and thin and have earned their retirements.

OPD will have a short informal ceremony today, where both horses will be given carrot cake, apples and assorted treats before heading off to their new homes. At the same time, we will add to the police force and introduce two Percheron/Thoroughbred mixed horses we just purchased and brought back from the Louisiana State Penitentiary, named "Peanut" and "Mikey." They are settling in, and are open for sponsorship.

If anyone is interested in sponsoring either new horse, they can contact Sergeant Michelle Pearson/Mounted Patrol Supervisor at (407) 246-2610
