2nd ANNUAL JOEY UVALLE 3V3 SOCCER CLASSIC

Date: May 6, 2007
Time: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Location: Bishop Moore Memorial Stadium (3901 Edgewater Drive, Orlando, Florida)
Event:  2nd Annual Joey Uvalle 3v3 Soccer Classic

SUMMARY:
The 2006 3v3 classic event was a huge success thanks to a group of very special and dedicated people. Joey is an alumnus of Bishop Moore High School and sustained a catastrophic spinal chord injury while attending Florida State University. Joey is the son of an OPD Lieutenant and an Orange County Circuit 9 Prosecutor.
The only hope Joey had at recovery was to receive treatment and therapy at Shepard’s Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. For reasons beyond control the insurance company providing coverage for Joey hasn’t paid for these needed medical treatments. Long term rehabilitation and treatment also have not been covered by the insurance company.
As the foundation has grown the Joey Uvalle 3v3 Soccer Classic has taken on a life of its own…first off there is no fundraiser of its kind in the entire country. For a community to come together organizing a 3v3 Soccer Fund-raiser to help Joey with his treatment and defray medical costs. The participation in the Classic by the soccer community was outstanding! Club and Recreational teams from the Central Florida area entered the event and were provided with competitive groupings. This charity event also offered an adult category and an opportunity for competition beyond the U-18 age group. This was a first in the country and it was awesome! We saw college players, coaches, and adults playing in this charity event. This event raised $32,000 that directly supported the rehabilitation and living expenses for Joey Uvalle

This year we have made giant leaps, surprising even to us...first was the partnership with Challenge Sports, which is the largest Soccer Tournament Association in the country and that brought us into our new partnership with Walt Disney World. We have just agreed to another high-level partnership with Rollins College Men's Soccer Team. These three partners along with the print media attention have allowed us to not only market our cause and tournament, but more importantly we are bringing attention to spinal cord injury research.
The creators of the Joey Uvalle Soccer Foundation have had the opportunity to discuss long term where we would like all of this to go..."giving back" is our first priority. In the future we will be taking the Joey Uvalle 3v3 Classic to a new level with the creation of the Joey Uvalle Soccer Foundation. We will begin to offer soccer training opportunities, team sponsorships and tournaments in the coming years. We have begun establishing a formal training group and we will take these instructors to your area to give back to your soccer community for all they have given us.

All proceeds from the 2nd Annual Joey Uvalle Soccer Classic will be deposited into the Trust Fund at United Heritage Bank and will be used for the beneficiary’s payments for health, education, maintenance, and support for Joey Uvalle. Joey is currently in the Beyond Therapy Rehabilitation Program in Atlanta, Georgia. All of the proceeds generated from last year's tournament ($32,000) were used to pay for this important rehab and Joey's living expenses. None of the payments are being paid by any insurance companies. The story of Joey's tragic injury and his road to recovery can be seen at www.joeyuvallesoccerclassic.org..
