Event: "Hug A Bear" Project

Background:

Waterbridge Elementary School student council contacted the Orlando Police Department in an effort to reach out and help in their community. The student council has decided to collect new or like new bears to be donated to the department to be given to children that have been victimized or have been witness to a tragic event.

The Orlando Police Department will be receiving in donation 50-100 bears on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at approximately 12:30 p.m. at the front of OPD Headquarters (Loop). Once received, the bears will be distributed to various sections within the police department who work closely with child victims (i.e. Crimes Against Children Unit, SRO and Patrol). In order to provide positive feedback to the student council members, members of the department, upon giving one of the donated bears, will complete a brief summary card on the circumstances of distribution and how it may have impacted the child. The cards will be forwarded back to the student council.
