WHAT: G.R.E.A.T. Summer Youth Program-LAW ENFORCEMENT DAY
WHEN: Friday, June 13, 2008
10:30
to 1:30
WHERE: Citrus Bowl
The Orlando Police Department G.R.E.A.T. Program (Gang Resistance, Education and
Training) is partnering with Florida Citrus Sports to host a fun and educational
summer youth program for 300 students between the ages of 11 and 13. There will
be two four-week sessions: June 9, 2008, though July 3, 2008; and July 14, 2008,
through August 8, 2008. The camps will encompass sports, computer classes and
presentations focusing on gang prevention, alcohol and drug awareness, and
leadership.
School Resource Officers and counselors will be handling all events for the camp
but there are opportunities for volunteers. Each afternoon, leaders in our
community will have the opportunity to come and speak with groups of students
for one hour about topics that encourage the student’s overall success in life.
Previous speakers have covered topics such as personal hygiene, goal setting,
and “the power of a positive attitude.”
On Friday, June 13, 2008, from 10:30 to 1:30, the Orlando Police Department and
the Orange County Sheriff's Office are joining their G.R.E.A.T. Summer Youth
Programs at the Citrus Bowl for a huge celebration of Gang Prevention. Over 300
youth will be playing sports, eating BBQ and interacting with law enforcement
officers and their special teams’ equipment from both agencies.
