The Orlando Police Department is proud to offer the 49th Citizens Police Academy beginning Wednesday, January 7, 2009.

The Citizens Police Academy is a free 12-week course offered twice a year that gives Central Florida Residents a better understanding of the field of law enforcement and the role of officers within the community. The Citizen Police Academy includes speakers from and/or field trips to the following police divisions:


• Homicide Unit
• Sex Crimes Unit
• Auto Theft Unit
• Criminal Law
• Crime Scene Technicians
• Drug Enforcement
• Gang Unit
• Hostage Negotiations
• Internal Affairs
• Training Unit
• School Resource Officers
• SWAT
• Ride Along with OPD Officer

On Wednesday, April 1, 2009 members of the Citizens Police Academy will attend a graduation ceremony with Chief Val B. Demings.

Applicants must be law-abiding citizens living in the Central Florida Area and must be at least 18 years of age.

Applications may be obtained by contacting OPD at 407-246-2461 and can be sent via standard mail. Applications must be received at OPD by WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 31, 2008. Completed applications along with a copy of your driver’s license or ID should be mailed to:
