THE CITY BEAUTIFUL CELEBRATES

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

PLANNING WEEK

 Summary:

ORLANDO, Fla. (August 2, 2011) – On Tuesday, August 2nd, neighborhoods throughout Orlando are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 28th Annual National Night Out (NNO) crime and drug prevention event.  City of Orlando Mayor, Orlando Police Chief Val B. Demings and the Orlando Fire Chief John Miller are encouraging neighbors to take a proactive approach to fighting crime on their streets.  In all, over 37 million people are expected to participate in ‘America’s Night Out Against Crime’.  NNO is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and supported in part by TARGET, a national corporate sponsor.

Any neighborhood, community group, church, sorority/fraternity, apartment or condominium community is invited to contact the Neighborhood Watch Unit at the Orlando Police Department now to receive information on National Night Out 2011.  There is no cost to register.

The National Association of Town Watch, The City of Orlando and the Orlando Police Department (OPD) are pleased to announce that Orlando was once again selected as a National Award winner for its outstanding participation in the 27th Annual National Night Out crime, drug and violence prevention program.   With the help of our Neighborhood Watch Block Captains and sponsoring businesses Orlando took 2nd place in the nation.  NNO 2011 is expected to be the largest ever.  By inviting every street, church, and apartment complex to host a NNO event, we plan to “PAINT THIS TOWN NNO RED”.

From 7 to 10 p.m. on August 2nd, residents in neighborhoods throughout Orlando and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.  Many neighborhoods around the city will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, and visits from police, flashlight walks, contests, youth activities and anticrime rallies.

Don’t delay!! National Night Out Planning Week is June 12th – June 18th.   For free registration material, call the Orlando Police Departments Neighborhood Watch Unit at
