9-1-1 Emergency Communications Specialist
Recruit # 10-186 * Position closes March 4, 2011

QUALIFICATIONS
To become an Emergency Communication Specialist (ECS), you must meet the following minimum requirements:
• 18 years of age
• Have a high school diploma or GED
• Have no felony convictions or have a history where your integrity is in question
• Have not used illegal drugs in the last twelve months

HIRING PROCESS
• Complete an online application
• Pass typing test with at least 25 correct words per minute
• Pass the Public Safety Telecommunicator Test
• Pass practical tests
• Pass polygraph examinations
• Pass background investigations
• Pass formal interview
• Pass medical examination including drug screening

BENEFITS

• SALARY: The starting salary for an ECS is $13.25 per hour, or $27,560.00 annually. There is a $.90 per hour shift differential for hours worked during evening or midnight shifts. Time and a half is paid for hours worked over 40 per week.
• SHIFTS: Employees work rotating shifts that include Midnights (11 p.m. - 7 a.m.), Days (7 a.m. - 3 p.m.), and Evenings (3 p.m. - 11 p.m.). Shifts are subject to change.
• VACATION: Three weeks of paid vacation per year and six paid holidays.
• TRAINING: 6 - 8 weeks of classroom and 12 - 14 weeks of structured on-the-job training. Generally requires three years to complete training in all positions.
• INSURANCE: Variety of insurance options available. Dependent coverage is available at an additional cost to the employee.
• RETIREMENT: 401(a) Defined Contribution Retirement Plan. Fully vested at 6 years of service. Early retirement after 10 years of service or 55 years of age. Variety of investment options available.
• UNIFORMS: Provided after the completion of 6 months of employment.
• TUITION REIMBURSEMENT: Up to $1400.00 a year.
