MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be at least 18 years of age

  • Have a High School Diploma or GED

  • Have no felony convictions or a history of incidents where the applicant's integrity was in question


HIRING PROCESS:

  • Pass a typing test - 35 words a minute

  • Reading for Comprehension and Writing Skills Test

  • Pass Polygraph

  • Formal Interview

  • Background Check

  • Medical Exam, including Drug Screening


SALARY:

  • The beginning salary for a Police Communications Specialist is $10.31 per hour. Employees assigned to the evening or midnight shift receive shift differential of $.80 per hour. Time and a half is paid for hours worked over 40 per week.

  • After an initial employment period of one year, employees receive a 7 percent salary increase, and an additional 7 percent promotional increase after completing training in all positions.

LEAVE:

  • Three weeks of paid vacation leave per year and six paid holidays.

INSURANCE:

  • The City of Orlando offers a variety of insurance options. Dependent coverage is available at an additional cost to the employee.

RETIREMENT:

  • The City offers a 401(a) plan in which the City pays certain costs. Partial vested rights after three years of service and early retirement after 55 years of age or 25 years of service.
