January 19, 2017 UPDATE
Wednesday, January 11, 2017 – UPDATE:
We know there’s a great deal of interest in the search for Markeith Loyd and we appreciate your continued coverage which is instrumental in helping law enforcement apprehend him.
Because of the volume of inquiries, we are not able to accommodate requests for individual interviews at this time. All official updates are coming from either the live media briefings, through the OPD Twitter account (@orlandopolice) or email.
Here are the updates we can release today:
Orlando Police personnel continue their tireless search for Markeith Loyd, wanted in the Monday shooting murder of Master Sergeant Debra Clayton.
On Monday afternoon, the City of Orlando activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The EOC continues to operate 24-hours a day with multi-agency intelligence and investigative units working investigative leads.
Since Monday, more than 550 tips have come in to Crimeline, and each and every viable lead is being followed up by Orlando Police and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. The updated Crimeline flyer is attached.
“Law enforcement cannot do this alone. We know that people in this community know the whereabouts of Markeith Loyd. We need you to tell us where is at now, so that he doesn’t commit another heinous crime,” said Orlando Police Chief John Mina.
Many of you have asked about the active calls screen on the City of Orlando website. We are taking every precaution not to jeopardize this investigation, deactivating the active calls screen is one of those measures. We do not know when it will be back up at this time.
We anticipate sending out more detailed information about Master Sergeant Clayton’s funeral tomorrow. This preliminary information was sent out today:
We also sent out a link to this video, which shows her doing what she loved most – interacting with the community. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcrMR9mnSVU
