The Sunshine State One-Call system was designed to facilitate communication between local contractors involved in excavation and the various governmental organizations responsible for underground utilities. Calls that come into the 800 number are electronically routed to the member organizations based on jurisdictional and service boundaries. The various departments are then responsible for notifying the contractor of the presence of nearby utilities. With the departure of Julian Johnson from the City's ranks, responsibility for maintaining Orlando's compliance with the program and with Florida State Statue 556.101-111 has fallen upon the shoulders of the Wastewater Bureau. A direct dial link has been established at the Bureau which operates 24 hours a day receiving the locate 'tickets'. A paper copy is printed and an ascii file saved. The paper copy is used internally and the ascii files routed to the other City departments via E-mail.
