Keep Orlando Beautiful
Stop the Poo-llution Campaign

The Stop the Poo-llution Campaign is a shared effort between KOB and the City of Orlando's Stormwater Utility Section.  Our goal is to educate the public on pet waste issues and help  preserve our neighborhood and surface water environments form the effects of left behind pet waste.  Orlando has over 104 named water bodies and many neighborhoods are situated on or around our beautiful lakes.  No matter where you live, you live within a watershed or drainage basin that contains a water body (lake, stream, river) that is a collection point for stormwater runoff from city streets and green spaces.

Pet waste is one of the many little sources of pollution that can up to big problems for water quality and potentially cause human health issues.  It is very different from other animal waste (like cow manure) in that it does not help fertilize our green spaces, but instead contains several types of pollutants.  The pollutants include pathogens, naturally toxic material, and ammonia.  When pet waste is left behind, it can end up in our lakes and other surface waters, it decomposes using up oxygen and releasing its pollutant load.  It is carried to surrounding surface waters by stormwater (rainwater) runoff.

Pet waste not only pollutes our surface waters, but it also pollutes our neighborhoods and right-of-ways.  It smells, causes neighborhood feuds, and potentially harms our health.  All this can easily be prevented by picking up after your pet.  It literally takes seconds to scoop the poop and go!

We attend pet events, neighborhood meetings, and other events as needed or requested.  We have a display and distribute informational flyers along with pet waste bag dispensers.  Please feel free to print and distribute our flyers (click here),  or call us at 407-246-2752 or e-mail to receive flyers or details on getting the information out in your neighborhood.
