Wastewater Division
Memory of a Fallen Team
Player

On
May 29, 2008, Wastewater’s Lift Station employees placed a plaque on
Lift Station #69 in memory of Herminio Rivera, who passed away on the
job on May 28 1996.
As I sat at home, thinking about a man named
Herman at Station 69, I couldn’t help but think what the atmosphere
was like in the work truck before they 10-7 there.
Was it:
- Peaceful?
- Argumentative?
- Grudgingly?
- or just quiet with lots of anger?
There were two people sent out as a team to do
teamwork and only one returned.
I believe Herman’s death has an open message
for all who work at any given job:
- As a work team, we should never leave the yard with anger and
hatred for each other. When these emotions are present and rides,
safety goes out the window. Now we’re only focused on getting even
or how to make the other make a mistake as to get him in trouble or
fired.
- When peace and harmony is among the team, we are aware of the
other person’s well being. We are looking out for each other’s
safety.
When we realize we are adults and respect each
other as adults, then the emotions of peace and harmony will reign
in the work truck, thus bringing about the safety and concern for
each team mate.
Just think, two people went out together, to
watch over each other and keep each other safe, but only one
returned.
Which one of us will be the next name placed on
a Lift Station? Seriously, what has Station #69 taught us???
