The city is committed to reliable and efficient sanitary sewer service. To maintain that commitment, the Public Works Department contracted Wharton Smith to construct Lift Station One. During the project, the contractor will install a new 36″ inch gravity sewer line and a 24″ inch sanitary force main.
The new modern lift station will replace two aging lift stations. Replacing the two older facilities will reduce the chance of future problems. Once the project is complete, lift station one will provide better efficiency and provide reliable sanitary services into the foreseeable future.
The anticipated project duration is 18 months.
Anticipated start date: March 2019
Anticipated completion date: September 2020
The project is located at the southwest corner of East South Street and South Mills Avenue near the 408 expressway.
FUTURE ROAD CLOSURE
There is a planned temporary road closure for Mills Avenue during the installation of the 36″inch gravity sewer line and 24″ inch force main. The closure of Mills Avenue is not anticipated to start until later in the project. Once Mills Avenue is closed, the closure is expected to last for six weeks. Public Works is currently coordinating with Wharton Smith, SGL, and Central Florida Expressway Authority to ensure a smooth transition during the closure and reopening of Mills Avenue.
Additional outreach will take place prior to the road closure.
City residents will need to plan their travel routes in advance as this project will increase commute times once the road closure takes place.
Project hours are between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Currently, there is no weekend work scheduled. We anticipate the impact on homeowners will be minimal. During the project, there will be a slight increase in noise.
