PROJECT UPDATE: ROAD CLOSURES
This weekend our contractor will conduct a full road closure along West Colonial Drive. The contractor will install new cable/trusses to the SR50 Pedestrian Overpass Bridge. This closure will take place within the project area of our SR50 Pedestrian Overpass Bridge, between Orange Avenue and Garland Avenue.
Detour signs will be posted along designated detour routes.
Please adhere to motorist and pedestrian detour signs. We ask that you plan and prepare for delays that may increase your commute time.
The closure will take place during the following dates and times:
- The 1st closure is Friday, December 14, 2018, at 10:00 pm to 6:00 am Saturday, December 15, 2018.
- The 2nd closure is Saturday, December 15, 2018, at 11:30 pm to 7:30 am Sunday, December 16, 2018.
- The final closure is Sunday, December 16, 2018, at 10:00 pm to 6:00 am Monday, December 17, 2018.
Once the project is complete, this new quarter-mile bridge will help provide a safe connection from the downtown core of the north, providing critical links between the Orlando Urban Trail and Gertrude’s Walk, SunrRail and LYNX Central Station.
The City of Orlando is committed to providing a safe, comfortable, and connected pedestrian system. As part of this City priority, a pedestrian overpass is scheduled to be built across West Colonial Drive to connect Gertrude’s Walk to the Orlando Urban Trail (Dinky Line). This walkway will make it easier for pedestrians to cross West Colonial Drive, one of Orlando’s busiest roadways. It will connect residents and visitors to Orlando’s various neighborhoods, business districts, SunRail transit system, and much more. Once complete in Fall 2018, this walkway will be a key piece in keeping Orlando an interconnected, pedestrian safe city.
This project is expected to be complete early 2019.
