|CHIEF PLANS EXAMINER|

|Performs responsible technical and supervisory work overseeing the Building the Plans review section of construction permitting. Enforces compliance with Florida Building Codes by performing a variety of complex and technical duties required to review construction development plans. Directs and coordinates a team of professional building code plan reviewers, including building, mechanical, plumbing and electrical plan reviewers. Provides technical advice to superiors, the development community and the public. Maintains schedule of building plans review workload to achieve accurate and timely flow of work. Assumes responsibility for troubleshooting the building code review process to anticipate and prevent operational problems.|
|Manages Building Code/Development Plans Review process, provides supervision to Building Codes Plans review personnel.
Provides technical assistance to the Building Official, inspection personnel and other plans examiners.
Provides code clarification for plans review staff and the development community by interpreting regulations, codes, and state statutes.
Provides help to the development community and the public with expedited plans review, recommends changes needed for code compliance and permit issuance.
Provides internal liaison To TRC and various Internal departmental boards. Coordinates with the Building Official to insure integration with department goals and objectives.
|Knowledge of Florida Building, Plumbing, Mechanical and National Electrical Codes.
Knowledge of engineering practices and design concepts.
Skill in the use of personal computer in a modern office environment.
Skilled in reading construction prints/plans and interpret specifications and codes.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to relay changes in codes policies and procedures to appropriate personnel.
Ability to analyze problems, and to plan and develop alternatives and solutions.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in explaining code requirements and supervising Plan reviewers.
Ability to mediate disputes and complaints of developers.
Ability to schedule and assign work duties, establish performance standards and conduct employee performance evaluations.
|Bachelors degree in Architecture, Engineering or Building Construction or equivalent combination of education and experience equal to five (5) years related experience or training. Supervisory experience required. Must be able to document number and job type of individuals supervised.
State of Florida Building Plans Examiner Standard Certification required and Fire/Plumbing/Electrical/Mechanical Certification desired.
