|CODE ENFORCEMENT SUPERVISOR|

|Performs responsible supervisory and technical work directing activities in the Code Enforcement Division. Employee is responsible for both assigning and reviewing work of subordinate inspectors to include providing technical assistance in interpreting applicable codes and ordinances. Performs periodic site inspections to resolve complaints and to ensure compliance with the Code Enforcement Board, City Council, Land Development Code, Minimum Housing Code, Lot Cleaning Code and Parking Enforcement Code. Position may require walking over uneven terrain, climbing stairs, bending, crawling and stooping. Work is reviewed through periodic conferences and written reports.|
|Consults with the general public and explains code requirements and enforcement policies regarding land development, minimum housing regulations, lot cleaning and parking enforcement codes.
Develops performance methods, safety and performance standards, maintains activity records and prepares periodic reports.
Reviews construction plans to ensure compliance with established Building/Zoning and Land Development Codes.
Inspects properties to resolve conflicts and complaints regarding plan deviations, plan and code interpretations or to provide guidance and technical assistance.
Keeps abreast of new code developments and conducts training sessions to keep staff informed of code changes, researches sources and procedures necessary to prove illegality of violation. Trains on use of equipment including computer.
Reviews daily activity reports prepared by enforcement personnel.
Presents difficult or unusual cases before the Code Enforcement Board.
Counsels employees, as needed, to correct deficiencies and improve performance. Performs periodic evaluations of all subordinates.
Reviews case files for submission to the Code Enforcement Board.
Conducts employment interviews and recommends selection/promotion.
Performs other duties as needed to accomplish the goals and objectives of the Code Enforcement Division.
|Knowledge of effective supervisory/management techniques.
Knowledge of City and State ordinances that govern parking control and enforcement.
Knowledge of city government and departmental operations and geographic locations within the City.
Skilled in dealing with irate citizens.
Skilled in the operation and utilization of a personal computer which includes programs utilizing GIS, Alpha 2 and mapping display.
Skilled in the operation of equipment such as microfiche or microfilm machines, decibel meter and camera/camcorder.
Ability to analyze information and draw a valid conclusion to solve problems.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental officials, employees, property and business owners, and the general public.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to plan, organize and direct the work of others.
|High School Diploma or equivalent and five (5) years experience in minimum housing inspection, building inspection, zoning inspection, one (1) year which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of related education, training and experience. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License. Must possess certification from the International Code Council and /or State of Florida as inspector. Must pass a criminal background check and polygraph.
