|Performs administrative and supervisory recreation work in planning, coordinating and conducting the S.P.A.RK. After-school Program, Middle-Teen Program (M.T.P.), Camp Orlando, and various recreational programs at a Regional Recreation Center. An employee in this classification participates in the planning, organizing, and directing of a specialized recreation program designed to meet the needs and interests of participants, parents/guardians, residents, and the public. Duties include; training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating subordinate personnel at the direction of he Regional Center Manager. Employee in this position may be assigned to manage one or more specialized programs.
Work assignments require the exercise of initiative and independent judgment in organizing and supervising specialized recreation activities. Work is reviewed through observation, reports, conferences, performance evaluations and counseling sessions.
Work is sometimes performed outdoors and employee is exposed to extreme heat, insects, and weather conditions. Employee may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
|Plans, initiates, organizes, coordinates and supervises the S.P.A.R.K. and M.T.P. After-school Programs, Camp Orlando and other special programs and services in accordance with the interests and needs of the public.
Ensures all Department of Children and Families (DCF) requirements for the S.P.A.R.K. Program and facility are met. This includes meeting or exceeding DCF policy, ensuring all certifications, files, and reports are accurate and up-to-date.
Coordinates with adjacent elementary school and principal for effective execution of a joint-use agreement between the City of Orlando and Orange County Public Schools.
Visits with educational, civic, fraternal and social organizations to solicit the participation and support of neighborhood and community groups.
Collects, receipts and deposits all center and program fees; bills community groups and processes check requests for contractual instructors.
Maintains accurate records pertaining to revenue, personnel, inventory, program evaluations, and attendance.
Under direction, assists in the preparation of a program budget.
Recruits and trains counselors and support staff-to- manage and facilitate programs in accordance with policy as well as "staff to participant" ratio.
Participates in recreation planning, research and evaluation.
Checks, schedules, maintains and oversees use of facilities, equipment and supplies.
Performs related work as required.
|Extensive knowledge of the principles, rules, materials, equipment requirements and organization of a wide variety of recreational programming activities.
Considerable knowledge of public recreation principles and practices, policies and procedures, trends and methods.
Considerable knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of public recreation programming.
Knowledge of first aid methods and safety precautions used in recreation. Working knowledge of public relations principles and practices.
Working knowledge of effective supervisory techniques and office management.
Ability to plan, direct and appraise the work of subordinates.
Ability to schedule, instruct and supervise numerous activities.
Ability to prepare, justify and maintain a program budget.
Ability to conduct in-service training sessions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other employees, outside organizations, participants and the public.
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing to both individuals and groups.
Ability to maintain records and submit oral and written reports.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
Ability to operate personal computer with word processing and budgeting software.
|Bachelors degree in Recreation Administration or a closely related field; and a minimum of one (1) year of experience with program management in specialty area; or an equivalent combination of related education, training and experience. Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. A Commercial Drivers License is desired. FRPA Certification desired.
