| Performs administrative and supervisory work for a comprehensive city wide aquatic program. Primary duties include planning, promoting, and directing the development and implementation of various aquatics events and the maintenance of pools and related facilities; planning for expansions and renovations of recreational facilities and acts as project manager for all aquatic construction projects; developing and administering budgets; monitoring revenue collections and preparing related reports; and monitoring program activities and implementing corrective measures. Position supervises seasonal and permanent staff. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed through meetings, reports submitted, and evaluation of results obtained. Employee is sometimes in the outdoor swimming pool environment and is exposed to extreme heat, insects, and pool chemicals. | |

Supervises the work of subordinate personnel by establishing program goals, reviewing program plans for feasibility and compliance with policy, monitoring events while in progress and resolving problems; reviewing recommendations for personnel actions; and enforcing Bureau policies.
Supervises operation and provides direction of the maintenance of pools and related facilities; performs frequent inspections to monitor program activities and maintenance & repair requirements.
Participates in the development and administration of annual operating budget by recommending new/expanded recreation programs and other goals for staff, projecting and justifying operational needs, monitoring financial records and authorizing expenditures.
Plans, develops, organizes and promotes city-wide aquatic programs to include leisure swim, team sports, swim lessons for youth, adults, senior citizens, disabled persons, etc.
Monitors reports for collection of revenue received from entry fees and membership dues; investigates significant fluctuations in amounts generated. Recommends changes in rates or other methods to increase revenues.
Participates in planning for expansion and/or renovation of recreation facilities. Provides input for the Bureau's Five Year Capital Improvement Plan; researches and develops grants to obtain federal funding for recreation projects.
Conducts surveys to assess community recreational needs and formulate plans for program changes/expansions. Compiles information and prepares reports recommending new/additional activities.
Consults with representatives of local organizations and businesses to obtain sponsorship and donations for various recreation/athletic activities.
Develops and/or edits public services announcements for newspapers, radio and television stations; designs slide presentations, brochures and flyers; makes presentations to civic and church groups and businesses to solicit donations or co-sponsorships. | |

Bachelor Degree in Recreation Physical Education or related field with four (4) or more years of experience development and/or implementation of various recreation/aquatics programs in addition to the maintenance of pools and related facilities, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Required certification and/or licenses are as follows:
American Red Cross Certifications:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (and Instructor)
Basic Life Support - CPR (and Instructor)
Lifeguard Training (and Instructor)
Water Safety Instructor
Standard First Aid (and Instructor)
National Spa & Pool Foundation Certified Pool Operator and/or National Recreation & Park Assn. Aquatic Facility Operator
