|SANITATION EQ OPER-RESIDENTIAL|
|Operates refuse collection vehicles and completes work in the prescribed time for assigned residential area; oversees work of refuse collectors assisting on assigned route; performs pre-trip and post-trip truck check and cleaning; and performs other related work as assigned. Work is performed under the supervision and performance is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through direct observation of routes, trip tickets, and discussion of problems.|
|Operates truck on designated route to collect refuse and recyclables; ensures completion of work in the prescribed time.
Ensures garbage and recyclables at residences are picked up and transferred properly; pick up may require using back door.
Performs pre-trip and post-trip vehicle checks including oil, water, air, and other fluids and handles appropriately.
Cleans vehicle upon completing daily tasks; covers trailer with tarp and straps same to side of the trailer.
Packs paper in hopper.
Answers questions for residents and directs them to contact the Recycling office for additional information.
Unhitches full trailers from truck, and re-hitches empty ones.
Completes daily activity tickets.
Delivers recycling bins, bags, and educational materials to new participants.
Completes daily truck check list before leaving the yard.
Turns vehicle to Fleet Maintenance for repairs and preventive maintenance.
Assists with collection of bins/items when required.
May be required to work during emergency situations.
Performs any other duties assigned by the Solid Waste Management Bureau.
|Knowledge of safe use and operation of solid waste and recycling collection equipment.
Knowledge of department policy relating to solid waste collection.
Knowledge of traffic laws, occupational hazards, and appropriate safety precautions.
Knowledge of City streets and collection routes.
Knowledge of appropriate methods for lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling heavy bins and containers.
Skilled in the safety operation of solid waste collection vehicles.
Ability to safely drive a 95 gallon garbage truck to collect refuse, recyclables, and yard waste.
Ability to read write, and follow instructions.
Ability to lead, train and ensure the safety of assigned employees.
Ability to lift collection containers, bend, run, and climb.
Exposed to extreme weather conditions such as heat, cold and rain.
|Read and write and follow instructions. Two years experience operating heavy equipment vehicles of 18,000 GVW or greater and be familiar with the operations of hydraulics; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A valid CDL class B driver's license from any State required prior to employment. A valid Florida CDL class B driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of employment.|
