|WASTEWATER PLANT OPER-TRAINEE|
|This is the trainee in the Wastewater Plant Operator series in which employees work under the close supervision of a Certified Treatment Plant Chief Operator or Supervisor while learning to carry out routine duties in the operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and preparing to obtain a Class "C" treatment plant operator license; performs other related work as assigned. Trainee employees are expected to obtain a Class "C" operator license within two years of hire and advance to full working level.|
|Performs basic, routine maintenance and preventive maintenance work at the wastewater treatment plant. Monitors wastewater treatment process and equipment; collects and examines samples to detect any changes, unusual conditions or malfunctioning in the equipment or process and takes appropriate action; cleans tools, equipment, and facilities; maintains logs on process and equipment; monitors alarm system and takes corrective action as appropriate; assists Certified Plant Operators and Supervisor in the performance of duties; communicates any unusual conditions in plant process or equipment. Must be alert at all times for dangerous or hazardous conditions and be visually alert around machinery and plant equipment and concentrate on plant processes to prevent problems. Must work with supervisors to obtain assignments and training, work with other city, state, federal and local officials and the general public.|
|Basic knowledge of wastewater and water collection, treatment and distribution; ability to learn progressively more advanced techniques and methods in the operations of wastewater treatment plant and water reclamation; ability to learn and make decisions regarding daily operations of plant, safety requirements, and monitoring conditions of equipment and ensure compliance with state requirements; ability to perform required safety sensitive procedures; and ability to pass the state examination and obtain a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator "C" certificate within two years.|
|High school graduation or GED and successful completion of science courses that related to wastewater treatment, water reclamation, or other related courses, and three months experience, or other approved training and experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the duties of this job.
Requires a valid Florida driver's license.
Other Requirements: Must obtain a Class "C" Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator license within two (2) years of hire date and promote to full working level; a one-time extension of six months may be granted based on performance and approval by management and Human Resources.
This is a safety-sensitive position subject to safety regulations. Employees in these positions must pass annual respirator physical and any other state mandates; facial hair is not allowed between the face and the sealing surface of the respirator face piece.
