|Under general direction, researches, analyzes, and develops comprehensive programs, services, and resources to serve at-risk youths and young adults from dropping out of school or becoming involved in criminal activity; coordinates the delivery of intervention services including education enhancement and work preparedness; performs intervention and prevention services including case management; trains and leads individuals and groups; conducts community outreach; performs other related duties as assigned.|
|Refers at-risk youth to appropriate services, programs, activities, or organizations as an alternative to dropping out of school or becoming involved in criminal activity.
Conducts community outreach in targeted neighborhood to identify, engage, and inform teachers, parents, residents, and volunteers about education/prevention/intervention strategies and services and to increase participation.
Provides leadership and support to educational professionals, police, parents, and others community groups to ensure the provision of education and intervention services/resources to at-risk youth and young adults.
Researches and analyzes community needs for the purpose of developing appropriate programs as needed to ensure successful intervention.
Maintains close contact with referred at-risk youth and young adults; performs assessment and case management.
Makes presentations to community groups and conducts workshops to create opportunities for parents/guardians and others to learn more about intervening with at-risk behavior and prevention/intervention methods and techniques.
Prepares and maintains various records and reports.
May supervise and train staff and volunteers assigned to program
|Knowledge of youth development and behavior theories and principles.
Knowledge of the methods, practices, and strategies for intervention and prevention of delinquency, including education intervention to prevent dropping out of school.
Knowledge of available resources and programs for servicing targeted at-risk youth.
Knowledge of the challenges faced by youth and their families who reside in high poverty, high crime neighborhoods.
Knowledge of methods of building community consensus and leading teams toward achievement of common goals.
Assessment and case management skills
Strong communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lead community groups comprised of professionals in education, non-profit, law enforcement, faith and other disciplines.
Ability to persuade and inspire youth and build meaningful relationships with disengaged youth.
Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and evaluate programs effectively.
Ability to negotiate effectively with other professionals and with representatives of collaborating community organizations.
Ability to research, analyze, and recommend appropriate course of action.
Ability to identify complex problems, evaluate situation, review options, resolve issues, make prudent decisions, and deal effectively with various and difficult situations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with others including managers, staff, clients, other agency specialists and professionals, and the public.
|Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, education, or other related field, and three years experience providing counseling, educational, or other social service delivery to at-risk youth, young adults, and/or families which included experience leading teams in the development and implementation of youth development, education, and/or intervention programs, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master's degree in social work, counseling, or related field is desirable. (Note: the current position will work in the Parramore district of the City of Orlando, FL. The targeted population is predominantly African American between ages of 12-24 . Successful experience working with this population is desirable. )
Requires valid driver's license in Florida by hire date.
Requires successful completion of a background investigation and polygraph.
