Starting Salary: $13.25 per hour ($.90 per hour shift differential, evenings or nights)
NATURE OF WORK:
Emergency dispatching work for the Orlando Police Department. Operates computer, teletype, radio consoles, and communicates effectively both verbally and in writing. Must be able to deal with stressful emergency situations. Salary increase and promotions are granted after successful completion of training in the second and third career path classifications.
High school graduate plus one year clerical, customer service, or dispatching experience; emergency communications experience preferred. Applicants must type 25 CWPM and pass the Public Safety Telecommunicator test.
MUST WORK WEEKENDS, HOLIDAYS, AND ROTATING SHIFTS.
Must pass police background investigation which includes a polygraph examination. This selection and hiring process is time-consuming and very selective. Only candidates with clean criminal histories who have been drug-free for a minimum of one year will be considered.
MUST PASS TYPING TEST PRIOR TO CLOSING DATE, UNLESS CURRENT PASSING SCORE WITHIN LAST 12 MONTHS ON FILE.
TYPING TESTS ARE GIVEN DAILY FROM 8:00 A.M. TO 4:15 P.M. AT CITY HALL (NO APPOINTMENT NEEDED), PERSONNEL, FIRST FLOOR, 400 SOUTH ORANGE AVENUE, DOWNTOWN ORLANDO. IF TYPING TEST IS NOT PASSED ON OR BEFORE THE CLOSING DATE, APPLICATION WILL BE SCREENED AS NOT QUALIFIED.
TO CHECK STATUS OF SCORES, CALL HUMAN RESOURCES 407-246-2062. IF YOU BELIEVE YOU HAVE A CURRENT TYPING SCORE ON FILE, CALL HUMAN RESOURCES AND ASK TO BE SCHEDULED FOR THE WRITTEN TEST. YOU MUST BE SCHEDULED FOR THE WRITTEN TEST IN ORDER TO ATTEND.
ONCE THE TYPING REQUIREMENT IS MET, CANDIDATES WILL BE SCHEDULED FOR THE WRITTEN TEST TO BE GIVEN AT CITY HALL ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 14 AND WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15.

ONLY CANDIDATES WHO HAVE VALID TYPING SCORES OF 25 CWPM OR BETTER WITHIN ONE YEAR AND PASSING WRITTEN TEST SCORES WITHIN TWO YEARS WILL BE ELIGIBLE TO CONTINUE IN THE SELECTION PROCESS.
