|This position develops and implements the operating system for the trunked radio system under the direction of the police communication manager. The position is responsible for testing, debugging, documenting, demonstrating and implementing a system application to meet the needs of the various radio system users.
The users group is comprised of the managers of OPD Communications Center/OFD Communications Center and GOAA Communications Center.
|Implements policies and procedures for daily operations approved by managers of users group. Programs and installs, maintains and insures repairs of mobile radios. Ensures system integrity and the degree of security desired by users.
Maintains priorities among users for handling peak periods of radio traffic and makes real time decisions in emergencies as to which agencies may be deprived of communications; explains and defends such decisions to users group managers.
Designs and implements computer screens to users group through anticipated difficult field conditions to the best solution.
Conducts or arranges for training of staff and users. After prior review and approval on contents from users group.
Designs expansion and modifications of the system considering the numbers of mobile units in use in an area and density of radio traffic; analyze antenna sites and channels available. Any significant impacts on the system must have prior approval from the users group.
Confers with users group on standards and procedures to design interfaces with other 800 MHZ trunked systems.
Coordinates with the Federal Communications Commission, vendors, other public safety agencies and Communications Managers in the users group.
Makes recommendations on acquisition or new hardware and software, reports and recommends to managers on costs.
Prepares reports and correspondence as required.
Responsible for base station, towers and microwave equipment, consoles and related radio equipment. This person will work as the radio representative with our maintenance vendor.
|Must have knowledge of communications systems including system interfacing of the City/County Smartzone system. Knowledge of two way 800MHZ trunked systems, analog and digital microwave and data communications applications.
Ability to provide detailed presentations to Communications Managers. Ability to recognize system and network problems and errors and take corrective action. Ability to coordinate and provide leadership in the development and presentation of training programs for assigned personnel. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to analyze and prepare technical reports.
|Bachelors degree (Business Administration preferable) and two years experience in a related field. Or comparable experience. Additional experience may be substituted for the required education. Prior experience with the design or implementation of and 800 MHZ trunked radio system preferred. Prior experience with similar system specifically in programming field is required.|
