|Performs highly technical work in various phases of computer operations. Employees in this class assist the Computer Operations Manager by coordinating the release of jobs to meet multiple deadlines and schedules, operations procedure training and by resolving a variety of non-standard problems. Duties also include server backup coordination and tape management, operating and monitoring system consoles and related equipment, recognizing atypical conditions to take corrective action, and maintaining records. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed through observation and results obtained.|
|Assists the Computer Operations Manager by coordinating scheduling/release of jobs to meet multiple client deadlines and schedules, resolving non-standard problems, and maintenance of operational instructions.
Prepares system for operation, monitors and controls computer to process data according to operating instructions through use of computer terminal. Sets control switches on computer and peripheral equipment to integrate and operate equipment according to program, routines, data requirements and operating instructions.
Selects and loads input units, verifies form alignment, ribbon quality, band condition, and cleanliness of printers, moves switches to clear system and start operation of equipment; performs minor maintenance on printers and tape drives such as band replacement and cleaning.
Monitors and replies to system operator informational and problem messages.
Diagnoses and corrects equipment stoppages and malfunctions.
Controls the various batch jobs to insure proper machine performance, production schedules and requirements.
Reviews in-operable Mobile Computer Terminals for errors. Submits MCT and other devices for warranty repairs. Maintains log of all devices shipped outside repairs.
Maintains records of equipment performance, maintenance, and service; maintains records regarding production, availability, and storage of documents. Assists Systems/Network Administrators, as needed, to document and prepare reports relative to system/server utilization and capacity planning.
Responsible for computer room organization and cleanliness. Maintains log of computer room cleanings and inspects rooms on a regular basis.
Schedules, monitors and assists in preventative maintenance, testing and troubleshooting activities associated with computer center systems (I.e. servers, generators, UPS systems, etc.)
Assist Call Center specialists, as needed, in staffing Call Center and input of Project Service Requests.
Executes various tape back-up jobs to facilitate back-up of files, libraries, and systems to tape; restores historical data onto system from tapes as requested. Assures proper backup tape rotation and verifies accuracy of server backups. Maintains library of historical and backup tapes.
Assists System/Network Administrators, as needed, to document and maintain procedures to backup data resident on multi-user computer systems and servers.
Assists in stocking and distributing computer paper and forms.
Performs other related duties as required.

Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) regarding computer center operations to a variety of client/management audiences.
Ability to perform duties under adverse conditions such as cooler temperatures and noise from operation of computers, standing for extended periods, and lifting boxes of computer paper, forms, and reports weighing up to 40 lbs.
|Associates degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, System Engineer, or related field with four (4) or more years experience in a computerized environment, two (2) of which must have been in computer operations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. AS/400, client server, multi-server environment, server backups and tape library is required. A polygraph may be required for positions in this classification with access to security sensitive information/databases.
