|Performs clerical and paraprofessional work in specialized areas such as property and evidence or Internal Affairs section. Primary duties include but are not limited to: complex, confidential records; collecting data; explaining and responding to requests for information; monitoring processing of various transactions to ensure compliance with established policies and statutes; entering, extracting, and researching; and operating mug-shot cameras. Some positions may require proficiency in typing, the application of specialized knowledge in interpretation of ordinances, rules, regulations, or procedures, and/or working independently on certain assignments. Work is performed according to established guidelines which apply to most usual work situations. Work is generally reviewed through random spot checks of records or discussion of problems; however, unusually important or complicated assignments are checked in detail upon completion.|
|Coordinates and monitors the processing of property and evidence dispositions to ensure accurate storage and retrieval of data and evidence and compliance with bargaining agreements, departmental policies, and/or applicable state regulations.
Provides advice regarding and refers non-prosecutable cases to other applicable agencies.
Reviews court orders on the expungement of criminal records to ensure accuracy.
Reviews completed investigative reports to ensure all relevant documents are attached (i.e., polygraph reports, arrest documents, notarized citizen statement, etc.) and in sequential order.
Operates personal computer to enter, retrieve, alter, research, and/or delete information regarding designated records and case files.
Develops and/or revises various forms and submits to supervisor for review, approval, or staffing.
Establishes and maintains filing and cross-referencing systems for research, monitoring, and storage and retrieval purposes.
Receives, stores and purges property and evidence in accordance with established guidelines; verifies accuracy of paperwork, ensures evidence secured properly; conducts periodic inventories, monitors and verifies disposition dates and processes the purging and destruction.
Transports drugs, money, guns, and other property and evidence to crime lab or other agency ensuring proper chain of custody is maintained.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
|Considerable knowledge of Business English, spelling, and arithmetic and office practices and procedures.
Some knowledge of computer data bases and data entry.
Knowledge of police department policies and procedures in assigned area.
Knowledge of police policies and procedures governing quality control standards and processing of police arrest reports.
Skilled in operation of a copier, personal computer and typewriter with ability to type 35 wpm.
Ability to understand and follow complex written and verbal instructions and learn codes, regulations, and procedures of assigned area.
Ability to maintain complex records and prepare accurate reports and to make difficult mathematical computations accurately.
Ability to meet the public and to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to store and retrieve evidence from shelves which frequently involves lifting up to 45 lbs., bending, stooping and climbing a ladder.
Some positions require the ability to work in storage/warehouse room stocked with drugs, blood soaked clothing, weapons, and other confiscated items, being continuously exposed to strong unpleasant odors.

|High School graduate. Four (4) years or more of clerical experience, preferably in law enforcement; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Ability to operate personal computers using the Internet and various software programs including Lotus Notes and Microsoft Office programs. Must pass police background investigation which includes polygraph. Some positions may require a valid Florida Driver's License. Some positions may be required to pass a typing test.
