|Under general supervision, applies knowledge, skills and abilities to perform responsible high voltage (over 600 Volts) electrical work involving the installation, operation, maintenance, testing and repair of high voltage electrical distribution systems, facilities and related systems, transformers, generators, switchgear, metering and control systems, equipment, machinery, power appliances, fixtures and other components within acceptable national and local codes, ordinances, safety rules and electrical standards.|
|Install, operate, maintain, test and repair a variety of high voltage electrical distribution systems, facilities and relate systems to include high voltage distribution feeders and conduits in and between buildings and their respective substations, high voltage distribution equipment including transformers, unit substations, distribution switchboards, switchgear, generators, circuit breakers, panels, cables and cable splicing and termination equipment, and related protective and metering devices in accordance with applicable national and local codes, ordinances, safety rules and electrical standards.
Plans, installs and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment; plans new or modified installations consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
Coordinates the installation, maintenance and repair of industrial electrical service.
Performs specialized activities including coordinating electrical renovations and performing high voltage electrical work.
Reads, interprets and works from construction and design prints, schematic drawings and specifications. Prepares sketches showing wiring equipment location.
Tests continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components; observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation and/or replacement.
Provide allied construction to include installation of telephone/fiber-optic network vaults, conduits, and pulling of cables.
Perform standard tests and certifications needed for confined space entry.
Perform layout work on the construction of manholes, vaults, and duct lines for power, control and communication cables, equipment pads for high voltage equipment, and cable and bus runs for vaults and substations.
Prepare, develop and execute schedules for preventive maintenance and routine testing of high voltage distribution system components.
Prepares estimates of time, labor and materials for various electrical projects
Operates and maintains tools and equipment (Infrared cameras, data loggers/recorders, meggers, etc.) of the high voltage electrical trade.
Provides guidance and training in high voltage electrical trade
Provides guidance and training in high voltage electrical work to other maintenance personnel
Provide technical guidance and direction to lower level employees
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
|The comprehensive knowledge and skills in the theory, principles, methods and techniques used in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems equipment, and apparatus including Underwriters Rules for electrical wiring and installation of high voltage electrical lines and equipment
The knowledge and skills in basic mathematics including area, volume, weights, and the practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
The knowledge of electrical codes, utility standards and safety programs as governed by rules, regulations and guidelines of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ANSI, equipment manufacturers and others
A working knowledge of the principles and theories of electronics
The knowledge of the tools and equipment of the high voltage electrical and electronic trade and detailed skills in their safe use, proper care and maintenance
The ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications
The ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with other department personnel, vendors and suppliers, staff, and the general public
Knowledge of the trade occupational hazards and safety precautions while working in confined spaces, aerial or elevated locations, extreme temperatures, excavations, and other environmental caused conditions
The ability to plan and perform work involving the installation, modification and repair of new and/or existing high voltage electrical systems and related electronic control and protective equipment with minimal guidance by others while maintaining work continuity when unplanned events cause disruptions
The ability to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work from lifts, ladders and scaffolding; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, and supplies and/or exert force up to 70 lbs.; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on equipment and machinery; to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment
Possess knowledge of electric power generating and distribution equipment) i.e. generators, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments and control systems) and high voltage electrical theory, procedures, materials, and safety standards and general mechanical knowledge and skills
Possess skills to replace and adjust mechanical contacts and tripping and time-delay intervals of circuit breakers and relays, to troubleshoot and repair equipment, to read and interpret circuit diagrams and electronic schematics, to use test equipment, and to diagnose problems and determine corrective action
Receive assignments from management, plans work, determines nature of maintenance or repair needed, determines what effects alterations will have on the total system, and ensures lines and equipment function properly. Can independently work form blueprints, schematics, and etc. to determine materials, tools, equipment and procedures, and to layout work and setup equipment. Reports special occurrences such as emergency outages and corrective actions taken to maintain service, unusual problems, etc., to management.
Knowledge of proper bending and lifting techniques, and the ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds. The work requires heavy physical exertion such as climbing of ladders of scaffolds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas, and lifting and carrying of heavy objects.
|Eight years progressively responsible experience in the electrical trade, four years of which must have been in the installation and repair of high voltage (600 volts and up) services.
Commercial Drivers license is required. Master electrician license is preferred.
