|Performs entry level tire repair work. Employees assigned to this classification assists in the inspection, maintenance, repair and replacement tires and tubes for all City vehicles.
Work is performed under the direct supervision and is reviewed by direct observation while in progress and upon completion.
|Identifies type and make of City vehicle and tire size, and receives and signs for tires delivered from Purchasing.
Receives service calls and locates the vehicle either from personal knowledge or by checking maps, and corrects tire problems.
Repairs and/or replaces tires on all City vehicles utilizing tire changers, jacks, and other tools and equipment; operates tire truck to change in the field.
Inspects vehicular tires when requested to determine driving safety.
Gathers and utilizes necessary tools and equipment to respond to service calls.
Performs other related work as assigned.
|Knowledge of proper size, ply, weight and safe air pressure of tires.
Knowledge of tire repair procedures and safety precautions.
Skill in the effective use of tire repair tools and equipment.
Skill in the operation of a wide variety of City vehicles in order to change tires.
Ability to lift heavy wheels and tires weighing 50 lbs or more, to stand for extended periods, kneel, bend, and stoop to change tires.
Ability to use extreme caution when working around large trucks.
Ability to perform road calls on City streets while exposed to traffic hazards, and inclement weather.
Ability to work in unusual and dangerous positions underneath heavy equipment. May be required to work weekends, holidays, and nights.
|Must be able to read, write, and follow instructions. Minimum of six month's experience with split rim and budd rims. Valid Florida Commercial Driver's License Class "B" with Air Brakes must be provided at time of employment.|
