|LEU GARDENS EXEC DIR|
|Performs administrative management work directing the various sections of Leu Botanical Gardens to include the proper maintenance of grounds and buildings, collection, labeling and display of various plant species, educational programming, membership development, marketing/public relations, fund raising and preservation of the Leu House. Work is performed under the supervision of the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer and an outside Board of Trustees and is reviewed through conferences, reports and effectiveness of the results achieved.|
|Attends meetings off site which involves driving City vehicle.
Supervises garden, programming, and Leu House staff.
Supervises staff which plans and implements publicity and promotional activities and other special events to increase public awareness of the Gardens and the Leu House; develops marketing programs; serves as primary media contact for the Gardens.
Coordinates formation of educational and scientific programming for participants of all ages.
Approves plant collection acquisition and display.
Develops annual operating budget, administers budget and approves budget expenditures; reviews Gift Shop sales reports.
Develops and administers policies and procedures.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
|Knowledge of horticulture as it relates to botanical gardens.
Knowledge of educational programming techniques and practices.
Skill in public speaking.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Board of Trustees and City Management, membership, corporate sponsors, media, staff, volunteers, and general public.
Ability to prepare and administer operating budget.
Ability to draft grant proposals.
Ability to plan, assign and review the work of subordinate staff.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
|Bachelors degree in Horticulture or directly related field and four (4) or more years experience for a botanical garden or arboretum which was publicly or privately supported, including at least three (3) years of management experience; or any equivalent combination of related education training and experience. Fund raising experience is desired. Membership in the American Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta required.
