Dear Friends,
Later today, I will meet with City of Orlando Emergency Management Manager, Manny Soto and my executive policy group to discuss Hurricane Dennis.
While it does not appear to be a direct threat to Central Florida, City departments are reviewing internal emergency plans in the event of a change
in Hurricane Dennis's course. Be assured, that the City is taking every precaution to be prepared for this hurricane season.
The City of Orlando's Office of Emergency Management (OEM) constantly monitors the tropics for hurricane activity. We are in contact with the
National Weather Service, State of Florida Emergency Management and Orange County Emergency Management on a routine basis for the latest information
on any hurricane activity. In addition, at the start of every hurricane season City departments are asked to review their individual agency's
emergency plan. Multiple personnel training sessions are held as well as situational exercises to test emergency plans and procedures.
When a storm does arise in the tropics, OEM increases communication and coordination with both internal and external agencies, and begins
preparations based on the latest information about that particular storm. It is important for City of Orlando residents to pay close
attention to local news outlets (television, radio, print, and the City website), which is the best way to get the latest information on what to do
before, during and after a hurricane.
Finally, please prepare yourself, your family and your home for the hurricane season. Prepare your disaster supplies kit and your disaster
plan in case we are impacted by a hurricane. If you have any questions about hurricane season, preparing your family or home please contact the
City of Orlando Office of Emergency Management at 321-235-5437 or visit:

Sincerely,
 Buddy Dyer Mayor
