Mayor's Message

Dear friends,

During my State of the City address, I reflected on how the strong partnership emerging in Lake Nona will forever change our region. Last March, the Florida Board of Governors voted to create a UCF College of Medicine at Lake Nona. In just under a year from that announcement, the Burnham Institute announced they would bring their east coast headquarters to the same area, Nemours declared Lake Nona as their preferred location and most recently Lake Nona was selected as the site for a new VA Hospital. What we are building, together, is an entire Medical City.

On Monday, we got one step closer to seeing that vision become a reality. The City Council approved a joint partnership agreement for the establishment of the Burnham Institute of Medical Research facility at Lake Nona. This package will help to ensure the success of the Burnham project in this community.

Our partnerships in the community have turned potential into progress, adding new industries to our economy and creating new, high-paying jobs. I am proud of the achievements these partnerships have created at Lake Nona.

Sincerely,

Buddy Dyer
Mayor

Daylight Saving Time – Change your Clocks, Change Your Batteries

The Orlando Fire Department reminds Orlando residents to change the batteries in their smoke detectors when they move their clocks ahead one hour for the switch to daylight-saving time on Sunday, March 11 at 2 a.m. Batteries should be changed every six months, and an easy way to remember is to do it when the time changes twice a year. Smoke detectors should also be tested monthly to ensure they are working properly.
