Bicycles
and Pedestrians
The
Florida Planning and Zoning Association (FPZA) recently purchased 70
bike racks for Downtown Orlando in order to make a contribution to their
community to promote bicycle transportation. As part of the downtown
bicycle parking plan, the racks have been installed throughout the
Downtown. Many racks are located near destinations like City Hall, Lake
Eola Park, banks, major office towers, grocery stores, and restaurants
to make riding a bike for transportation a more convenient choice.
Mayor Buddy Dyer installed some of the racks on a recent work-along
at one of our community centers. On a regular basis, the Mayor will work
with different departments in the City to meet City employees and learn
what their jobs entail. The Mayor has participated in several work-alongs
with Transportation including audits to determine the walkability of
downtown, Bike to Work Day, and senior walking groups.
As a Bicycle Friendly Community, the City of Orlando has 250 miles of
trails, bike lanes and signed routes providing a connected bikeway
system everyone can use.
