Existing Bus Service
The Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (dba LYNX) is the existing public transit provider in Orlando. LYNX’s service area constitutes more than 2,500 square miles extending through Orange, Seminole and Osceola Counties and serving a resident population of over 1.8 million people.  LYNX provided a record 26 million passenger trips in 2006 with a weekday average passenger count of over 84,000.  LYNX provides regularly scheduled bus service to 65 routes on comfortable buses equipped with bike racks.  There are over 5,000 LYNX bus stops spread throughout the 3 county service area.  LYNX offers service every day of the year and on average logs over 51,000 miles of travel per day.  LYNX also offers shuttle service to special events; commuter assistance with vanpools and carpools; special door-to-door transportation for customers who cannot use regular bus service; and special fares for students, physically and mentally challenged customers and people aged 65 and older.  The colorful LYNX fleet currently includes approximately 290 buses and 70 vans.

LYMMO is the Downtown Orlando bus circulator that carried over 1 million passengers in 2006 averaging 4,500 riders per day.  Its fleet includes 10 buses, easily recognized by their bold and vibrant images depicting the uniqueness of Orlando.  Riding on LYMMO is free along a 3-mile loop in the heart of Downtown Orlando.  Eighty percent of all public parking facilities in Downtown Orlando are located within one block of the LYMMO system.

Existing Rail Line Systems
Within the tri-county region, there are 112.3 miles of active rail route. The majority of this track comprises the CSX Transportation (CSX) mainline from the Seminole/Volusia line to the Osceola/Polk County line, a distance of 52.3 miles. The other CSX track in the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (CFRTA) region is the 25.8-mile Aloma branch line from Sanford to the vicinity of the SR 436/Aloma Avenue intersection. A third section, currently leased to Florida Central Railroad, is 34.2 miles in length and extends from the Orange/Lake County line to Downtown Orlando with a branch to Ocoee. The existing railroad system includes Amtrak for passenger travel and CSX for goods transportation. 

Commuter Rail System
