PARKING
Mission
The Parking Division is a self-supported enterprise fund
focused on Downtown Revitalization, LYMMO - pedestrian circulator
initiative, providing clean, safe, affordable, accessible parking in the
Downtown Central Business District.
History
The City began its parking operations pursuant to a 1949 Special Act of
Florida Legislature. Prior to 1980, the City was primarily
involved with acquiring land for off street parking, as well as
managing on-street spaces within the 1400 acre downtown Parking
District. During this period, the City's parking operations were
managed by the City Council appointed Orlando Parking Advisory
Commission. The Commission was abolished during the 1981-1982
fiscal year and management of the City's parking operations was
transferred to the parking systems section of the Transportation
Engineering Bureau. The Parking System is presently managed by the
Parking Division within the Public Works department.
