Mennello Museum of American Art

Mennello Museum FacadeThe Mennello Museum of American Art endeavors to preserve, exhibit and interpret the museum’s outstanding permanent collection of paintings by Earl Cunningham while also seeking to enrich the public through special exhibitions, publications and programs that celebrate other outstanding traditional and contemporary American artists.

Tucked away on a scenic shore of Lake Formosa in Orlando’s Loch Haven Park, just north of Downtown Orlando, the intimate Mennello Museum uses its gallery spaces to showcase changing exhibitions featuring American art of all genres and time periods, including original and traveling shows, and is a Smithsonian affiliate. Owned and operated by the City of Orlando, the Mennello Museum of American Art opened its doors in November 1998.

The treasure of the Mennello Museum is the permanent collection of paintings by self-taught artist Earl Cunningham, donated from the collection of Michael A. and Marilyn L. Mennello. This is the most extensive collection of Cunningham’s in existence. Since his death in 1977, Cunningham has had solo exhibitions in more than 30 museums in the United States. His work is in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum.

Every month, the Mennello Museum hosts Free Family Day on the second Sunday. Inspired by the current exhibitions, the event features a make-and-take craft station, open from noon-2:30 p.m., volunteer docent-lead mini-tours of the museum and an open house in the galleries until 4:30 p.m.

During the summer, there is a limited series of Art Adventure Camps for children, which are led by UCF art majors.

Guided tours by our volunteer docents are available, but reservations must be made in advance. A craft activity can be added to the tour for an additional fee of $1. Register for tours by calling the museum, 407.246.4278.

The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Sunday, noon-4:30 p.m. , and closed on Monday. The museum is closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. The Sculpture Garden is always open, and pets on leashes are welcome.
