A Message from the Manager
Well, it’s been almost 3 months since I was given the opportunity to manage the Water Reclamation Division, and the time sure has flown. Shortly after my arrival, we were forced into emergency mode with the oncoming storm called Hurricane Matthew, which really gave me an immediate chance to get a feel for the heart and soul of the Division. And I can tell you the Division responded with a level of proficiency and professionalism that would make any division manager very proud. No overflows, no interruption of service, and no employee complaints. Just a can do/will do attitude about the whole situation. So, a hearty thank you to all Division employees!
It’s been great to learn about some of the cool things the Division owns and operates. We have a wonderful education program (including the incredible Grease Fighter, who made a surprise appearance on front page of the Mayor’s newsletter), our supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system that helps manage our plants and lift stations through sophisticated computer programming, and our award-winning wetlands park in east Orange County. But I’ve really just been overwhelmed by the dedication of the everyday hard-working men and women in the entire Division, including our system evaluation and maintenance (SEM) crews, plant operators and technicians, lift station operations, environmental control, reclaimed water specialists, permitting and plan review engineers and GIS mappers, laboratory operations, and asset management team, all of which are supported and complimented by our excellent administrative staff.
I feel really blessed to have been given this opportunity and I look forward to working with all of you in the upcoming year. So here’s to Happy Holidays and a great 2017 to all of the Water Reclamation Division family. Your efforts are acknowledged and sincerely appreciated.
David J Bass, PE
